I was wondering if there is a nice starfish that I could put in my 90 gallon display. I have a couple of small serpent stars in my cleanup crew and they are great, but I want something that will stay out during the day and criuse the tank.
Here is my stock right now:
2-small hippo tangs
1-japanese swallowtail angel
5 - reef chromis
2 - perc clowns
1 rainford goby
1 golden headed sleeper goby
I have a lot of soft corals and don't want anything that will eat them....of course.
thanks in advance..... :help:

I know that chocalate chip start will come out during the day but they are not reef safe.
My serpants come out when I feed even during the day...so I think after a while yours will too.

Got about 150-160 lbs. of live rock and 25 lbs. of base.
50 lbs of live sand
1.026 - 1.027
PH stays around 8 -8.1
The nitrates stay at 0.
I have a Mh lighting right now, but in a week or so I am changing to 316 watts of T5's.
I got a small refuge with 40 lbs. of live rock. and 20 lbs. of live sand with cheato growing in there. I have an auto topoff coming this next week.
Corals:
branching frogspawn - large
GSP's
blue mushrooms
6-7 different zoas and palys
Kenya trees
pangoda cup coral
pulsing xenia
green and orange monti caps
The system has been setup for about 4 weeks, BUT everything is out of my 20, 24 and 30 gallons tanks (including the sand, LR, LS and water). I transferred everything in one day and lost nothing. Added a little new water and been going great. The other systems were up for about 18 months.
There is a serpent star in the clean up crew along with 25-30 small hermits and 30 snails.
Anything else you need to know?

We had a burgundy starfish that stayed out most of the time and recenty added a blue linkia starfish to my reef that is always out doing something.

I don't suggest a blue for this size system. It is marginal.
I would say the best chance is with Linkia multiflora - the mottled Linckia, which will almost certainly reproduce in this system (via arm drops).
I would suspect that it will be OK for an orange Linckia, perhaps even burgundy. Purple may be a bit more marginal.
I don't ever really recommend these types of stars at all

IMO, only keep one. They are both eating similar foods. If conditions are good, then they will reproduce on their own. Adding two may simply speed up the death of both.

Thanks ophiura, I think I will have to go with the orange Linckia. The other you mentioned seems to be hard to find around here.
I will let you know how it does.
Thanks again.

I got an Orange Linckia this weekend and acclimated for about 4.5 hours. Seems to be doing well for two days. Is there anything that I should be offering it to eat? I feed the tank DT's about twice a week and water changes every three weeks.

They do not typically take to any spot feeding, which is why healthy mature live rock - and no competition from other stars - is crucial.
