What, how much, and how often are you feeding???

Well since I just got it yesterday, I just bought today:Kent Marine Phytoplex (Marine Phytoplankton), and when I got home this evening I added 1 capful. It is a 54 gallon bowfront tank. I have a cascade 700 with a spray bar, and it moves the water pretty good. Nothing stays still in this tank. I have been told by my lfs salesperson that it is normal for the polyps to come and go. BUT I am worried about the limp branch.

Oops I forgot to mention that I also have one in my 225 gallon. Inthat tankI have a Cascade 1500 with spray bar, and a Koralia pump right by the Gorgonian.

I assume this is the Diodogorgia nodulifera you posted earlier? Phytoplankton WON'T do the job. This non-photosynthetic gorgonian has large polyps and will need a LOT of zooplankton (300-800 micron size).

Will it work temporarily? I will have to order some zooplankton from somewhere since the fish store is so far away. It will probably take me a few days to get the right stuff.

What do you think of the product called Marine Snow? Is that good? Or do you have a better suggestion. I will order it today as soon as I know what I should get.

Dunno but marine snow has a good rep. BTW if the gorgonian starts dying soon or looks "limp" like you described, I think that might be the beginnings of necrosis.

No, it won't do any good temporary. The gorgonian has likely been starved for considerable time with collection, shipping, etc, etc - so a few days is really not likely to be the breaking point. Just be sure to get some good foods and feed plenty and feed often. These CAN BE KEPT SUCCESSFULLY, but it does take diligence.

Marine snow is a decent all around planktonic food, but if you're only feeding this gorgonian, I suggest you just stick with zooplankton. Baby brine shrimp, cyclopseeze, rotifers, copepods, etc are all good foods.

Well guess what? All of a sudden the gorgonian is blooming!!!!! Well the one in the 54G has lots of blooms, and the one in the 225G only has about 2 or 3 blooms. Maybe there's hope.

That's good - it means it's trying to eat. Now get to work on feeding it.

Not really - just keep up with the brine and mysis and whatnot and then get on track once you have the right stuff.
