what are the general requirements for keeping a gorgonian? could I keep it under a 6 bulb t5 fixture with ATI bulbs and individual reflectors?

Gorgonian care varies GREATLY depending on the individual species. Many are completely nonphotosynthetic and nearly impossible to keep for long periods of time without very elaborate setups - others do quite well just under strong lighting...

what about the red one listed on this site? it says it just needs high lighting and the care level is easy.

This gorgonian needs strong water flow to feed it, and keep algae from collecting on it. So use some kind of coral food, microvert, phytoplankton and the like. Squirt the desired amount right into the water of the tank. the water flow will feed the coral, you don't have to spot feed it.
You should be good to go.

This is very poor information on SWF.com's part. Diodogorgia species gorgonians are NOT photosynthetic - and are VERY difficult to keep alive. Do some searching on the web and check out a few good reef aquarium books - there's a lot of info available out there that should encourage you not to try this gorgonian.
