It did have die off, you didn't smell it because it hasn't started to rot yet!! You shoulda put it in a seperate container. Do you have much in the way of livestock, corals etc?...

Hope it was a new unstocked tank bc the LR will cycle some - even the best pre cured will after shippment. Good luck with the curing, keep the skimmer going. BTW, did you notice any polyps or cool hitchhikers yet?

Well you can either get the fish and polyps out (if that's easier) or you should remove all the LR and cure it seperately. Test your main tank for ammonia and nitrates and do water changes if necessary. But first and foremost, get the new LR outa there!!
Do you have a rubbermaid bin or a clean trash can?? If not I'll we'll talk more as soon as you get back from wal-mart.:D

I always just add the LR to the tank that will become my main tank. Nothing in there but sand, rock, and water. After the cycle is done I add the fish, corals, inverts, etc. I have always thought that it is easier to add the live rock before anything else because you can cure the rock and cycle the tank at the same time and not have to worry about anything that you may have already bought since you haven't bought them yet.

Well put in a bucket or somthing like it , dep the size with salt water powerhead and heater put the rock in the bucket in a room "dark or dim " check the ammonia when it get high do a water change and repeat when it goes up again. About one to two weeks of doing so it should SMELL fresh not like DEATH !!!

Just to add, all of my LR is from SWF. Never had any ammonia in the tank, no cycle, no smell. I put 80 lbs of LR in all at once and my tank, which was new then, never cycled. Also added LS at the same time. Pretty cool to have a cycless tank. :D

Okay,
First of all I hope I am not the person that is short a sandwich...
I recieved my 20 lbs LR yesterday and currently have it in a tub with a heater and a filter running. From the thread referenced before, I am curing it again for 2 weeks.
But wait, Beth are you saying that you did not have to do that?
I have an established tank...

And still not a change in my tank , did not take the live rock out and cure it again , they "saltwaterfish .com" where I got the rock from said It's ok to just put in the tank or "if I want I can dip the rock in a bucket of NEW saltwater" It will be ok they said !!!
