I got my 2 mushrooms yesterday, and a kenya tree.......they seemed fine.......this morning the kenya tree looks good, but the one mushroom looks "shredded'? if that's possible! I can't even find the other one!! The small piece of rock it was on is still there, no mushroom! I don't know what happened!! Any ideas? I haven't had any other problems with my other corals.....

A shredded mushroom can be one of two things, ..it was placed in a high flow area and it needs low flow, and the other reason is if something is chewng on it. If the mushroom is in a high flow area , one let go to float to a better spot, you might find it, if something is eating them...one possibility is a coral eating worm, watch at night under moonlights and see if you have a bobbit worm that hangs out in a nearby rock.

Mushrooms can detach themselves from rocks.

Can you post some pics?

I can't get a pic of it, now it is whitish, with these purple things coming out that look like octopus tentacles? Any ideas?

YEAH....if it is coming from the mushrooms mouth, it is either waste.....or it's guts

They do this when stressed, and a lot of the times if it is guts, they do not recover......a pic would be great, but if you can't get one....you can't get one

Environmental Dangers to Symbiotic Zooxanthellae

Sometimes environmental stress can trigger the shedding of symbiotic zooxanthellae, although this process is not one that is beneficial to the host organism. Known as “coral bleaching” occurs, the number of symbiotic zooxanthellae decline rapidly, and the coral loses its coloring and takes on a glassy, white appearance. Such disturbances to the levels of symbiotic zooxanthellae can include overexposure to air during low tides or increased temperature of ocean water (i.e. global warming).

Without Symbiotic Zooxanthellae

Without symbiotic zooxanthellae, most coral will certainly die from nutrient insufficiency."

P.S. so I did't have to type it out in my own words. Feeling lazy today.
