I have a 72 gallon bowfront that has a 20 gallon sump. On the sump I have a 500 gph pump. Also in my sump i have a aquaC urchin protien skimer. In the tank it holds a korilia 3 and 4 one on each side i just need some advice ive been doing this now for about 2 years and just now starting to carry coral. Ive noticed reacently that theres a lot of brown hair looking stuff and fine sand settling on the rocks. My ? is what can i do to improve the conditions and if my flow is high enough?
Sorry for rambling never posted before and tryin to learn a lot so PLEASE I NEED HELP AND ADVICE.

In my opinion, you have more than enough flow so before I answer this question, I have some questions for you:
1) What is the stock in your tank (fish and inverts)
2) If you have fish, what do you feed and how often
3) How much sand?
4) How much live rock?

500+850+1200=2550/72=35 times turnover in your tank. This is a decent amount but when you start to get SPS coral you may want to get up into the 50+ turnover range.

You really should have enough flow and seems like you're doing everything right except you're missing snails. I'd try some cerith snails and nassarius and see how it goes. If that doesn't work and you want to try chemicals, try Coralife Marine Tank Clarifier. I'm not a fan of chemicals, but I have used it without harming my tank and have gotten excellent results. I went on vacation once and neglected cleaning my tank and when I got back the diatoms were on the rise and used that stuff for 4 days and my tank was clean and they never came back.
