GPH turnover

I'm setting up a 125 gallon FOWLR to start and the tank has a 1200 gph drain rating. I have heard people talking about total water movement included in the gph turnover. So do power heads and closed loop systems add to the total?
Also, in an ideal system would a closed loop system replace power heads?
Thanks.

Yes, anything that circulates water adds to the turnover rate.
And yes, the point of a closed loop is to be able to get rid of powerheads that take up room in the tank and can be eyesores.

phishface... I'm from the 'burgh :) where do you get your supplies and fish? I haven't really had good luck with the places I've been around here lately...
