Well, acceptance to lifestyle choices is a little different than the acceptance to "leet speek" or "text engrish" in my opinion. If a ........... wait a minute. not going there.
Well, I guess that takes us back to everyone setting their own standards. I don't like the stupid text language, but it's become part of life. What's acceptable to one is not acceptable to another. Where shall the line be drawn, and is there anyone that can draw such a line as to appease all parties involved? No.
It's like the stupid "coexist" new world order bumper stickers. When the people that one symbol represents are sworn to eradicate two other symbols, there is no way it's even remotely possible. The new world order is only possible through genocide of the opposition. People cannot agree and come together as one. Never gonna happen. (how's that for grammar?)
That takes us back to whether we allow the students to rule, or the parents and teachers. When the party dissenting calls the shots, they have the power. Evidently, the education system is now run by those being educated. That may be a bit like the government employing more workers than the private sector. Once that happens, all control of government by the people is gone.
If educators took the position serious enough to fail those that can't cut it in school, we wouldn't be having this discussion. Were it up to me, any student handing in work that is beyond comprehension in the language it was assigned in..........well, I'd be seeing them next year, too. People (anything, for that matter) need to be allowed to fail if they do not measure up to the task.
So, I agree. Acceptance of the unacceptable is intolerable, but I must tolerate it because someone will always disagree with me. (and they are usually liberal democrats)

I look at it this way - I have to try really hard at work with reports, drawings and documenting test conditions. This place is not supposed to be work, it is supposed to be a fun place. If some people feel that they need to use special "what ever you call it" short words then let them be, if we don't understand it they will learn really quick because they are not getting any responses. IDK as long as they are not annoying or condescending what does it hurt. Anyways just my 0.02$ I like this place and hope to stay for a really long time. When i first came to this site I had the hardest time with acronyms - the other side of the fence, LOL

The poster themselves can do it...to be annoying IMO
I have been deleting the weirdo posts I have seen so far
It's a great way to emphasize something when you want to make a point or draw extra attention to something you want to say. I had no idea you thought it annoying. I hate to see posts like #20...separating the paragraph makes it easier to read. Since read your post is what you want folks to do..it only makes sense to make it pleasent to do so.

Smartorl, B = bold I = Italics and the U
= underline that word
Edit:Meowzer... Your response to making some words bold in a sentence. I couldn't get it to double quote.

Flower, we aren't talking about emphasizing a word, it's random, one paragraph this way, two sentences another, then normal print.
I don't think you understand or have seen the posts being discussed.
We do have several members who are from countries overseas that do really well considering English is not their primary language. If not immediately made clear what they are asking or saying, usually it's fairly easy to clear it up.

Okay, now I understand... I haven't found any like you are talking about, but I do know some folks are from other countries and I know what you mean on that.

I walked into Walmart the other day and they had signs all over that said "All Valentines is now ten cents".

It took everything I had in me not to go up to every dang sign and correct the grammar. I was an English minor in college and grew up in a household where my father was the grammar gestapo. If I were to ever use slang such as "ain't" I wouldn't have been able to sit down for a week. Relaxed speech such as on message boards doesn't bother me, it's when it's used for advertising, websites etc. In fact there was an ad running on here for a while that was misspelled and drove me nuts. Now I can't remember what it was for, but it was an i before e violation LOL.

i read an article and it said scientists conducted a study to see if the new "texting" language makes child spelling worse. But instead, they proved that it helps children with pronunciation of words easier.
I took a test a while ago and I accidentally used texting language in it (txt, wuz, wat, etc.) and i got no points marked down for it.
