Hey i was wondering if there was anyone else who was also into building/extreme customizing old cars. I love for lack of a better term, Rat Rods. So raw, bare bones, unsafe, horrible to look at but do (sometimes) run and turn far more heads than high dollar "street rods" im talkin real hot rods.
here's me: a couple of tats, 4" cuffed 501's, pack of smokes rolled in a sleeve, steel toes or chuck taylors and my hair used to be a pomp, but then went with a red 'hawk for a few, some rockabilly, some punk.
my car: right now, 71 ford truck, bagged, drives at 3" ground clearance, primer black with white pinstripe flames, everything shaved, tailgate welded shut, 6" chop on the roof (windsheild is 9" high) '64 caddy front bumper, '63 caddy rear bumper with flame throwers from the stock "rocket ship" tail lights, and red steelies. EVERYTHING on it was done by me, from the frame up. not bad for my "tow truck" but i am currently in the market for a Model A.
so, anyone else out there pinstripe everything and take a sawzall and welder to whatever you can get your hands on?

I don't have a street rod but I will have a sweet little Ranger. I have an 84 Ranger with the 2.8 engine. This engine was originally designed for turbo and has mechanical gear driven valves. They put it in the Capri MKIII 2.8i turbo that was only avaliable in Europe. When Ford put it in the Ranger, the only thing they changed on the engine (other than switching to carbueration) was they put in a heavier crank.
The throttle body off a 3.8 Thunderbird matches right up to the intake of the 2.8. I'm going to put on an SDS fuel injection system and that throttle body coupled with the supercharger off the thunderbird also. I already have on a set of full headers and dual exhaust with dual 4inch ram air. I put on a Jacobs ignition already as well. I plan on cruising around 300hp. :joy:

I love the rat rods... I have always thought they are much more original than Hot Rods... Anyone can take a car to a shop and have it done, but to build it with your own hands and literally put anything you find in the yard on it is unique!
But I will have to say, I still like the Hot Rods adn the customs... I mean, they are pretty... Too pretty to drive most of the time.. A rat rod looks better with a dent!
My wife want let me have either :(

awesome!!!!! i need to put a plow on my truck!!!!!!!! hell, at 3" is IS a plow in colorado. well, if i can get pics of my truck, i will put them on, speaking of rat rods, when i chopped it its windsheild is only a piece of plexiglass zip screwed in, and the roof is only tack welded on, not too water tight. oh yeah, the plexi glass is the only protection from elements. bad news though, i blew the motor coming home from denver at 105 mph. well, at least i have something else to do during the winter, expecting some good snow this year
