Great way to rid the Mantis!!!!!!!!!

Put a piece of dead fish on a mousetrap, put the mouse trap in your tank...........wake up the next day and find a snapped Mantis!!!!!!!!!!

Have you tried that before? I had a run in with a Mantis, the thing ate my fish
I did manage to find a lfs owner that found it and poked his head off with an ice pick though:D

yes I have used this........my friend told me about it and I tried it.........when I woke up I found a snapped mousetrap and 2 pieces of a mantis shrimp
some people dont want to kill the thing.......but I honestly would rather have a fish.....than a pest

Hmmm, sounds like a good idea. I had a mantis a while ago and had a lot of trouble catching it. I bought a mantis shrimp trap but all I caught with it was my starfish. But what if something else trys to eat the bait? Like a shrimp or starfish or something?

I know some people don't want to kill them. But the owner told me to bring him the rocks that might be where the Mantis was hiding. When I went to his store there was a customer there who wanted the Mantis for himself. He stood there for almost 2 hours while the owner looked in the rock. The Mantis came out a little bit and the customer about @^it his pants :D
He changed his mind really fast. The owner then took the pick and poked off his head:D :D :D
That Mantis ate my fish though:mad:

I agree with Carrie. Did you move the piece of rock to a different tank? Or was the main tank empty to begin with? How did you weigh it down? Also, consider the effect of the metal springs and such. Sounds good on paper, so to say, but IMO, I wouldn't try it. Just trying to clarify this so that others do not try this in a tank full of fish/inverts and such.

wood and metal in salt reef? this doesnt sound smart to me. I would never try it. If ya really want it gone bait him at night and they have these nifty little things called pvc pipe. it takes about a 2 or 3 inch round to retieve him or 1/2 inch works great for the kill. just bait him out for a few nights and be cool and let him have fun then put the pipe in and let him have another night or so to get used to it. then take the pipe that he has go used to hanging right above him and know the ---- out of him.

its not like you leave it there for days......it took overnight
theres lots of things your shouldnt do to a fish tank....but you do
the way I looked at it was this...........the mantis makes anoyying clicking sounds......so does the mousetrap. Inch for inch the mantis is the best hunter on earth. I bet he found that meat in 1 hour or less.
all I know is that I woke up with a dead mantis and my tank was saved
the mousetrap is my superhero..........you should give it a try

Wood and metal from the trap would take awhile to infect the tank. Good idea. Don't let the naysayers get you down.

Take the suspected rock out and put it in a bucket with a salinity of about 1.040 or so...the pest should evacuate the rock into the water...

Man I think it was a good idea. If you wanted the guy out of your tank and it worked. It was a good idea. If we want to talk cruel if you get technical about it taking beautiful fish and corals out of the ocean and puting them in a glass cube with artifical light is cruel! Give the man a break it isn't as if the mantis are an indangered species!
