Green Algae I have a picture help!!

I dont know what type of algae this is. It grows on my live rocks but not on the sand. I went to the pet shop and they told me it ming be beard algae. How do you get rid of it?? its about inch tall dark green.
Another person told me its good algae because it consumes the nitrates in my tank.
who is telling the truth??
Help!!

Hello, I'm going to move you over to our REEF forum, because algae really isn't a Disease.
In the meantime, post up your water readings, including nitrate, phosphate.
What water source are you using? Just general water and tank info would be helpful.

Hair algae. It sucks. Good luck getting rid of it. Do a search for hair algae and take a look at some of the suggestions in any one of the approximately 5 threads per week that discuss it.

A lawn mower blenny can help you cleaning it up, or just a few mexican turbo snails. They do a fantastic job cleaning in my tank.

So a lawnmower blenny will eat it off?? I read emerald crab is excellent for removing the algae.
I read if I remove the algae by hand or with a scrubber...spores will go everywhere in the tank...is this true?

i believe that when people do this they take the rock with the algae on it out of the tank scrubbing off the algae and rinsing with saltwater. thus preventing spores from going everywhere.

I used to have the same problem, it covered all my live rocks. I did try to remove it physically, but it didn't help much. Yellow tang and several turbo snails took care of it really fast.

So which one is better? turbo snails, Lawnmower blenny, or a yellow TANG?
My Nitrate is about the 20 mark. How do I lower it??

Lawnmower blenny didn't do much in my tank. Yellow Tang and turbo snails did.

My Yellow tang is very friendly and doesn't harass anyone.

I got him when he was only 2.5". Now hi is about 5". I like him a lot.

imy tang was pretty big when i got him, i mean i like him but i hate how he harasses the other tang, i used to have a blonde naso tang but he died
