Green Algae on Live Rock?

I just traded for some live rock that has some really green and dark green places on it. Actually most of the rocks are covered in it. This doesn't seem normal. Right now its just in a rubbermaid tub with a maxijet. I'm about to setup my tank this weekend. I've scrubbed it and it helps a little. Is this usable or should I let it die off and use as base rock? Will going through a cycle kill it? Thanks

i would say it is most likely safe. a cycle will probably be good for it because the nitrogen that comes along once the amonia starts to break down is needed for plants. is it hair algae? or is it jsut green-looking-encrusted rock?

I don't believe it is hair algae, even though I'm not 100% what hair algae is. This is kinda like a green stain on the rocks.

lol. hair algae is long and thin. like hair
it is a green stain..... it is a good chance it it coraline algae. is it hard? This is a good thing. it doesnt realy do anything benificial, yet it does mean that it is mature live rock.
