I think I have a green algae out break in my tank. I noticed 1 green spot on my live rock 5 days ago, now I see a few more green spots on other parts of my rocks. It is just a green spot with no hair. Is this bad? I assume that this will continue to spread. How do I contain it and elimiate it? I have been using tap water with water conditoner o far. I just received my tap water filter 2 days ago, but I haven't gotten a chance to use it yet. I have a fluorescent light which I turn on around 6 hours a day.

It is common to have alea outbreaks in a new tank,, if tank is by a window can also affect or stimulate algae growth as well. If tank has cycled get something that will help conotroll algea. I got a Fox Face Lo and love that fish,, eats it like a goat and adds alot of color to my tank,, hope that helps,,, Good luck

it's very common to have algae outbreaks when you've been using tapwater. Tapwater has a lot of dissolved minerals, and other crap that is really bad for the tank. Even with water conditioner, tapwater is a big no-no! Trust me, i learned the hard way. i setup my tank about a year ago with tapwater, and i've been battling algae ever since.
Please don't buy a fish to control it. You need to stop it at the root of the problem. Algae thrives off of nitrates and phosphates, so if you have those in your tank, that's most likely the cause. You should purchase those test kits (if you don't already have them), and test your water.
