green brittle star has gash on leg

well as it says my star has a small gash on one leg maybe 1/4'' x 1/4''. have had it for very long time (18 months) nothing ever messes wit him so i have no idea what happened to him. its not really a gash just broke the skin. my question is should i do something to help it heal? and if so what should i do?

Not much you can do IMO....except keep the water conditions good and maybe feed foods soaked in vitamins

cant they regenerate whole body part after they've been ripped or cut off, let alone a cut.

it is definately healthy he eats everything in the tank!!! the only thing i can think of is i found the biggest crab i have in my tank half eaten this morning so i think they were fightin, the star obviously won!! when i feed with turkey baster every day i make sure to send a lot his way so he doesnt mess with any one. but they are animals so you never know what they'll do

well when i woke up this morning he had completely chewed his own leg off!!! i dont understand because i have been watching it close to make sure it was fine, and it looked like it was healing back over. i checked it just last night and it looked like the skin was growing back and getting a little green color back. the leg was crawling around the tank by itself like a green bristle worm!

It will be fine. The leg may have gotten a small cut, got infected, etc. The starfish ate his own leg because a) he can survive without it, and b) it will grow back.

yea i know it will grow back. do you know of any antibiotics or medicine that might help it stay healthy and help it heal faster? it still acts fine it came out morning and night feeding time.( just a lil slower)
