Green/Brown Algae outbreak...

I believe my problem originated from phosphates in bad water supply. I have since changed all filters and done several 20% water changes without success. What else can I do to get this problem under control??
New lights in Dec 06
No changes in feeding or new additions..
Time to buy a UV sterilizer and/or protein skimmer?

skimmer will help and so will useing ro/di water when doing water changes eventually it will use up all the phosphates and slowly start going away it will however take time to do.

Its definitaly phosphates. how long do u have your lights on? it will help BIG TIME to get a UV sterilizer. Ever since i threw one on my 90 gallon reef tank the water has been crystal clear!! the UV sterilizer had to be one of the best things ive bought for the tank.
