I have a 55 gal reef/fish tank,I just instlaled T-5 lighting to help with the growth of mushrooms and anen. I had a red filam bacteria problem, actually it was a blackish color all over the rocks and sandy bottom, I used slime remover and vacuumed off better that 1/3 of the tank. This seemed to have corrected the problem, I also had an infestation of a type of bubble algae to deal with. After a few days I began noticing green furry algae growing rapidly on the live rocks, It doesn't wipe off with fingers I believe it needs scraping with brush. What type of stuff is this?will cutting down on lighting help I just reduced down to 7 hrs/day. I also read that if this is a hair type algae there is a fish know as a tiger cowry that eats it, I've been searching for info about this fella but haven't found anything on it, I would love as much info on the Cowry as possible size, feeding habits, temperment, ect? I am also planning on ordering a phosphate additive, I was told that may be the problem. A little help please... Thanks ..
