I have one area in my 55gal tank that keeps on growing green hair algae....My levels are good....I was thinking about putting a power head in this area to create some more current flow...... its the deadest flow in the tank....i already have one other power head on the oppisite end.....do you think this is overkill??? two powerheads in a 55 gal tank....and will this help control the growth....(I have a full cleaner crew including a sea urchin) thakns.....I have one area in my 55gal tank that keeps on growing green hair algae....My levels are good....I was thinking about putting a power head in this area to create some more current flow...... its the deadest flow in the tank....i already have one other power head on the oppisite end.....do you think this is overkill??? two powerheads in a 55 gal tank....and will this help control the growth....(I have a full cleaner crew including a sea urchin) thakns.....

nope.. just be sure that the fish have somewhere to go if they wish to get away from the current for a little bit.. a cubby hole, or cave type setting with the rocks..

well you water levels are good from nitrates especially because you have all that hair algae that algae is only harmful to reef tanks tg.its smothers corals..you could try a lawnmower blenny to help control it also .alot of algae eating fish wont touch the stuff.I only know of a few species of fish that do and none small enough to keep in a 55.could try emerald crab they eat algae dont know about hair algae i only have it in my tank if i purchase a rock or coral with it attached(doesnt live in my tanks)

Just today we brought home our new cleaning crew which included the electric blue hermit crab. That little sucker climbed right to our little hair grove and cleaned it right off! Within 2 hours we were green hair free. You might try buying one of these hermit crabs before you get out the wire brushes.

I just reach in and pull it off. If there's a ton I'd say you might be overfeeding. Do you skim? By "levels" do you mean phosphates as well? If you don't test for phosphates (or if they're on the high side) you might toss in a phos. magnet and see if it helps.
