Lol Flower, maybe we both missed the point...I wasn't offering and advise or a solution to the GHA problem. Only responding to the question regarding the sump.
I'm sorry that you had that horrible experience, must have been a pain to deal with. My advise, knowing how expensive this hobby is and how much money we all spend to have a beautiful SW and or SH tanks...a back up generator is a awesome addition to any home. You never know when an unexpected lack of electricity may occur.
Dhulsey,...best of luck with getting you GHA gone and on your sump.

"Options are like a-holes, everyone's got one." lol

LOL...I always heard that opinions were like armpits, everyone has at least two and most of them stink.
Yes I loved that little tank, then the GHA attacked. I used it as an excuse to go get a 56g for my Happy Birthday to me present.
I also purchased a generator and ordered two battery operated aerators. which reminds me...they should have arrived already, I will have to check on them.

I run a turf scrubber in my Refugium (about 1.5 years now) It has been fantastic for taking care of my massive GHA problem I had originally. I also don't have to worry about overfeeding.
It is a bit more maintenance than a skimmer, but far less expensive than a skimmer or a reactor.
Once a week i clean one side of the screen, 5 minutes, that's it.
Change the $7.00 bulbs once every 3 months.
Keeps PH up and phos, nitrates and ammonia down.
They aren't for everyone but I won't make another tank without one. I love it.
As for the ich, I quarantine everything that comes into my tank and have never had a case of ich (or any disease for that matter)
Again its more work and not for everyone, but it sure makes it nice knowing you are ich free.
I might be off a year it may be 2.5 years going now I lost track of time :)

Ok so I looked up my profile and it says I started in Oct of 2009 so I've had my scrubber running about 2 years since i started with a skimmer at first for about 6 months :)

That's awesome! I've always been a big proponent of algae scrubbers. :D
