Check in google for Halichoeres chloropterus, or green coris wrasse. I think I know exactly the fish you are talking about, but I can't find much on it....all I know is that they are VERY delicate, IME. Had a few when working at an LFS. Don't think any lasted very long.

There is such a thing as a Dragon Wrasse(Novaculichthys taeniourus). It looks kind of leafy. Page 284 in The Conscientious Marine Aquarist. Wow thats twice tonight I've quoted that book. pretty handy book. matt

This one, if I know what he's talking about, is a really beautiful light green all over and if I remember was relatively long, thin and flat. I quite liked it but was tough to keep.

I am looking for info on a green leaf wrasse..My friend just got one and he was not very informed and we are trying to find some info on it. I will post a pic and you guys can help us out. He lays on side and looks from what we have gathered from LFS he imitates a mangrove leaf. He also buries himself and leaves his mouth sticking up out of the stand. If anyone knows the name of this fish we would surely appreciate it.

As you see above, we were not able to definitively id this. Can you post a picture?
My thought will be that it is not easy to keep. Will need a mature tank, and experienced keeper. I have never seen one again...its been years...this is not a good sign.

well there is a leaf wrasse from raja impat (not sure of spelling) where mangroves grow in clear saltwater over reefs (only place in the world), and the wrasse evolved an elongated dorsal fin to make the fish look like a leaf as it swims.
however, there is another 'leaf-fish' which i am pretty sure is not a wrasse, that is much larger and has a curved body that very closely resembles in looks and swimming style a decaying leaf slowly blowing along the sea floor.
i have never heard of aquarists keeping either of these species.

That is what he has. It has a larger fin and it bends its head and looks like a blowing leaf. Im going to get a pic if he will ever come out. If he gets spooked he buries himself for a day or two. This fish is only 3" long max and the LFS says that he has seen them a few times and they have never been larger than 5-6"

How do we figure out what what kind of fish this is? The LFS doesnt know b/c he said that he just does an order of assorted wrasses and he got two of these.

although it looks like a pretty specific species of wrasse, there so many species and color morphs and even Super species like with corals have been suggested for some fish families, so there may never be a way to accurately identify it. however in this case, a couple of searches and you might find something

D'oh!

I'm liking "Good Luck With..." Maybe GLWI (Good Luck with it) or GLWGLWI (Green Leaf Wrasse, Good Luck With It).
