I was just wondering in the future. I was going to buy a 200 gallon tank and was wondering if I can keep a green moray a tesseleta and a another aggresive eel if i get them all small and i do relize they would get to big and have to be traded in i would put 100 pounds of live sand and 150 pounds of live rock. Would this have a chance of working.

sorry man... eels are cannibalistic. But look on the bright side... you only would have to trade in one fat eel...

I really like the tesselata, While some people will say you can keep a tessy in a 200, I would say 300 would still be on the small side. Someday when i have the $$$$ and space, I will have a tesselata for sure. Tessys don't like a whole lot of light so there are no worries about spending loads of cash on lighting for such a large tank. Lots of hiding places are required (must be very sturdy so not to fall and crush the eel or damage your tank) As for tankmates, I would keep it in a species tank without other fish (my recommendation to keep one alone is what I personally would do... i'm sure people have had success with tankmates) The one most important thing is to be sure to have a strong, weighted down, secure fitting lid. They will escape if you do not... Good filtration is a must too. I would imagine a large tessy will produce quite a bit of waste... Good luck if you decide to do set up a tank for a tesselata in the future... Does anyone out there have a tessy now? if so, I would love to hear about how it is working out...

the green moray when larger will devour everything in the tank. my buddy feeds his live rats with salad tongs so he doesn't lose his hand. Its eaten every other eel in the tank....to aggressive for me

How big is your friends tank and how much would it cost me to run a 400 gallon tank besides for filteration just 200 lbs live rock 200 lbs live sand and other essentials.

well i have an green eel, ghost eel and a snow flake eel in an 90g tank and all are doing fine. they each have thier own hiding places. although the green eel can get frisky once in awhile. but i will say this a few months ago my green eel did take a chunk out of my snowflake's head good thing i was home when it happend and i had to put the snowflake in the sick tank. so if you do decide on the green eel make it the last one in the tank. oh yeah i've had my green eel for 4 years now and its not gonna get any bigger than the 3 feet it is now. it spends much of his time curled up in his cave like the other eels and comes out for feedings and right back into its cave. ever see a snake fully stretched out fully all the time. mine only stretches during feedings and shedding.

well i told you what i keep with mine another cool fish that i like and you can keep with it is a rock fish i have and they were tank mates for awhile but i got another fish to go with the rock fish. (A true alligator fish). mine eats frozen krill and feeders but mostly frozen krill. remember though you have to keep the back covered as much as possible because they do jump. found mine on the floor twice and it used to go into the skimmer alot and stay for hours or days if i didn't take it out of the skimmer. i ended up getting rid of the skimmer and am running two power heads and a emporer 330 on the tank.

jw is correct about the feeders, the reason i don't feed mine feeders all the time is because of the aggressiveness of the eel frozen food sort of takes that away from them. not a lot but a little snow flakes r lame when it comes to that department especially the baby ones. But if you insist on live food try ghost shrimp a little more exspensive but well worth it.

So if i was to get a 100 gallon what would be best to get a green moray or a baby bamboo cat shark the cat shark i will only keep while it is small and the fish store said they will take it when it is big.
what does everyone think
