Green plant like stuff growing out of live rock

I went to look at purchasing another saltwater set up. The live rock looked good with coraline but there was a TON of green plant looking stuff growing out of the rock. The guy said he didn't know what it was and that it grows like crazy and has to be trimmed back all the time. Pardon my ignorance but have yet to see any plants growing out of any live rock that i have seen anywhere. Any help?

Do you have a picture, or can you discribe it? There are several different kinds of macro algae that can be found in our tanks.

thanks...no pics available...I should have taken some

now how about a ton of aiptasia (sp?) growing on the rock. how easy is it to get rid of? The set up will be used as a FOWLR set up if i purchase it. Just want to make sure that I am not starting out with a BIG headache
first.
thanks again

Aiptasia can be a real pain to get rid of. How many are you talking about? Unless you're paying next to nothing, I would probably pass.

If the rock isn't in your display tank yet then you can remove the aiptasia many ways. Do a search on here for aiptasia removal. The problem is that it is likely rooted and may come back.

It will be in My main FOWLR tank. I have a friend that had a aiptasia outbreak a few weeks ago the tank was completely covered in the stuff, but his "fish keeper" that takes care of the tank, put something in the filter that ended up killing every one of them in about 24 hours. Just not sure what he put in the filter to do that. I may have to ask him to find out. There are way too many on the rock I was looking at to inject anything.
