It could take up to a week for them to fully come out. I had one open in an hour and I had one closed for 3 days. I moved it to a different part of the tank and it opened later that day. It all depends.
They don't just "stick" to the rock. They have to grow onto it. You can glue it to the rock with super glue gel, but then it would be there for good. What I did with my smaller cutting was glued it to a small piece of rock. It will grow and cover the rock and then I can move it where I want it, if I change my mind.

I got a green star polpys and when the guy picked it up, it turns purple because all the polpys go inside. I had to wait for about a day almost for the star polyps to come out. Now they are out during the day and goes inside and becomes purple during the night. Just make sure your water quality is good and that its not getting direct current BUT a good amount of medium currrent. Mine gets high to medium current. I noticed if it hardly gets current it wont open up. Hope this helps.
Check your alkalinity levels, and calcium levels.

Mine is lured out by having good water flow. I would recommend giving it medium to high current....then you will see some of the "Stars" emerging from the "purple".

I have two GSP in my tank and they both took awhile to come out. My question is they seem to be fading in color, one store said they need med. light the other say high light. Which is best and how can I get more color in them?

when I got my GSP, I had it in an area of slack flow. it would not come out for two days. i finally moved it to right in front of the power head on my live rock and almost instantly it came out and is growing like a weed.
Check your flow and lighting

I have a good clump and I waited for 2 weeks and it would not attach so I finally just glued it and it took another week to open and be happy. I was warned by guy at LFS that they can be very stubborn about opening when they are moved but be patient they will eventually open. Mine was getting knocked around alot by the snails and crabs so it wouldn't open but within a week of gluing it, it opened and was a nice neon green flower but the stock is always purple.
