If carbon was bad for corals.....even GSP's...then a lot of us would have had serious problems. I run carbon on a regular basis to clean up or polish my water and I've never had reason for concern in regard to the well being of my corals.

I Run Carbon Continuosly In My 55 Gal Reef. I Have Never Had A Problem With It. All Of My Corals Are Flourishing And Reproducing.

Water parameters... can you give us numbers by chance on NH3, NO2, and NO3?
I run an emperor 400 on mine - I replace one of the pads aywhere from once every other week to once a month. It hasn't harmed my GSP's or any other coral.
Did your LFS tell you that? I'd read around here a good bit - LFS are normally out to make money, this board is not  .
Welcome to the boards!!! :)

You should be careful of what brand carbon you use. Cheap varities release phosphates besides other harmful toxins that can have adverse affects on corals.
