Green star turns to purple rubber

Just put my first Coral (green star polyp) in my 24 Aqua Pod. It was beautiful when I bought it at the LFS. Now it looks like a piece of purple rubber on a rock. LOL. I would assume that once settled in my tank it will open back up. (right?) Also the clerk at the store was a little unsure about how high in the tank I should keep it. (close to the light?)

When i first got my GSP it too didn't want to open. It seemed like a whole 3 days before it was fully open. The reason why i think it takes so long is that it is getting a feel for your tank!

The green star polyps actually come out of that "purple rubber"! Give it some time to adjust to its new surroundings and it will come out and look like what you saw in the store

I don't want to be mean, but slow down, going way to fast, your tank is like a wk old. Things tend to crash if you try to rush them. Just my opinion. Your star polyps like the light, depending on what you have MH or PC, middle to high position, they do like some flow also. I hope everything works out for you. I know how hard it is to wait, but it is the best thing to do some times, I have been addicted to this lifestyle(more than a hobby, hell I'll starve myself if I can save some $ to spend on my tank) for roughly 19 yrs., about 11yrs with reefs. Rushing stuff along usually is disaterous in the end. Please take your time and you will love this hobby like nothing else, if you don't some times it can bite you, and it can hurt$$$$$. Hope everything is cool.

A few little spots are beginning to open. I'll just leave it alone and watch. I was also told that this particular star will spread rather quickly given the ideal conditions. True?

Well it's been in there since the 5th. Still looks the same. Water and all readings are fine. The LFS told me to temp acclimate it only. Was this a mistake or could it be that it is just not used to my tank yet?

i only temp acclimate alot of my stuff, and its all fine, don't think thats the problem.... get a full tank shot, just curious. Mine is in really high flow, and doesnt even look like that at night, only 1/3 of it goes in, its usually out all night.

is the shrimp ever on it? cuz my scooter woudl always hang out on mine and it would draw in sometimes. I really dont know what to tell ya, some corals take longer, or the acclimation could have been the culprit

Nope. Small hermits hang out there once in a while. I'll just leave it alone and wait. Thanks
