Green Water!!!

Hi, on my 30g reef setup after the cycle the water has turned Green. Neon green. I did a 50% water change, it cleared up then came back.
How can I get rid of this unsightly mess?
Tank has been running now for 2 1/2 months. Water tests have been performed and all tests are reading 0 for Nitrites, Nitrates, Phosphates, Ammon. Ph is 8.3 and temp runs between 78 and 80. Salinity is 1.024.
It is a 30g long, 2in sand bed, 50lbs live rock. Mag 5 plumbed with a SCHW and a mini rio behind the rocks for more flow. A Pengin 170 to remove large sediment in the water. Lights are 4 95w VHOs. 2 - 10k and 2 Actinic. No sump/Fuge (yet).
Thanks in advance for any ideas or suggestions
Also I accidently posted in the DIY forums if someone can help and remove it, thanks.

sounds like a diatom prob. get a diatom filter, or borrow one from your Lfs

Water peramiters are still fine...
Think it was the RO water thing. Been purchasing water from LFS(thought) was RO... went to the store to get more water, son happened to cut himself on a piece of glass rock. Rushed him to the back to wash it off and owner was filling my water containers from the tap. Had 5gal left over from before and placed it into a clear bucket and it was green. NEVER gonna buy water from him again. Went to a local water store and purchased RO for .25 a gallon. Hope that helps. Also installed a UV Ster. hoping it will help with the water alrdy in the tank.
Thanks for the ideas, hopefully this will help.

RO water has gone through the process of reverse osmosis which takes out much of the crap that is in tap water including phosphates which can cause major algea growth.
In response to the original post, you may want to try a protien skimmer. I had a similar problem and could not get rid of it. Protien skimmer cleard it up within a week.

You have an algae bloom. Very hard to get rid of it by doing water changes. Light helps it reproduce more. The clearer the water from WC the more it will reproduce. Catch 22.
What I did when I had this problem is: Bought seaclear by Kordon. Bought some filter pads by seatest. (They look like felt.) Grabbed the old whisper filter from my FW days. Dumped in the seaclear (reef safe) put the pads in the filter. The next day I rinsed the pads in FW because they were clogged with algae. The next day I rinsed the filter with FW because they wre clogged. (thats 2 days, not a type O:D ) And I had to do it every day for about 10 days - 2 weeks. Cleared it up and never came back. The seaclear binds the algae together and the pads are like 1 micron.
Good luck.

I do not have any experience with this situation but if it is indeed an algae bloom you should be able to go a few days/a week with little to no Lights on to help correct the problem

It is an algae bloom set off by the excessive nutrients in your water from the cycle...continue to do water changes...aloong the 10-15% range about every 4-5 days and it should clear up on its own...keep your filtration clean as well...if you have fish...buy little fishy helmets with miner lights on top so they can see where they are going...
Good luck.

Gone Gone Gone....
It is finally gone.... I did a 50% water change, with NEW water. Purchased a External Filter from Wally world... the double that does 300gph and 3 days later the water is crystal clear. :jumping: I had a single filter just to remove heavy sediments fromt he tank but when I also added the double it worked like a charm.
Now I have to rearage my rock work... they look terible.
Thanks for all your help.
