is it on your sand bed also? Not sure, looks like diatoms, when you cycle your tank the "brown algae" usually come, came when i cycled my 29 gallon.

Hard to tell from the pic, could you describe it better, looks kinda reddish, is it? soft, hard? got any lines or stripes, holes, branches, or anything.

Ah... I was looking above and to the left of the white area, but I see it now. I do not know what it is.

Wild guess here from the pic. It could be coralline algae that is bleached out. If it is it should start pinking up in a couple weeks. I'd just keep an eye on it for a few days and post another pic if it starts to morph into anything wierd.

I looked at it again and it almost looks like it has a bit of coral skeleton to it, almost like a coral was broken off right there.

I think I see what you are talking about. I have some on my lr that I got from swf it has grown to about 2x the size it was. Mine kinda looks like a sponge of some sort but it is hard to the touch. It is somekind of encrusting something I have no idea what. If anyone knows I would like to know also. I will try to post a pic later of mine (the lights are off now and I don't want to wake the fish).

What I am looking it is pretty much smack dead center of the photo...looks like something live to me...one of the added benies of live rock...watching new things you didn't know you got, grow.
BTW, how is the slime algea problem working out?

LOL It is the white, maybe spongy thing with little slits? in it. almost coil like dead center of the pic.
See the red thing in the upper left quadarant of the pic? it's just one inch lower right- dead center.

This may help - not sure what it is either
Does look like a broken off coral skeleton base - as robbie and Thomas mentioned.
