you need to get your calcium levels I believe to around 400-450. I am using kalkwasser(calcium carbonate) and it is helping alot.
Also you need to have good circulation of water in your tank(ie-powerheads)
Hope this helps.

Not sure how much lighting you really need, had heard that corraline doesn't need much light at all. What I have found does the trick is good Calcium levels (400-450), Alk, and a mature tank. Also helps if you already have some purple on some LR from whcih it can propogate. In my experience (which is limited mind you!) It takes a good 6 months or so for a tank to mature to the point where the corraline really starts to grow well, and then it encrusts most things in the tank.

My tank is only've been setup for two months now, and coraline algae, purple in general are spreading all over. Don't ask me how I did it, it just happened. And also I only had a 15 watt fluorescent lighting. I've never checked my alkalinity, don't have reef yet :) .

kalkwasser. I add a gl over a period of a week about two weeks ago. We can see the difference, purple is growing. As soon as I stop being lazy (and I'm at home) I'll mix up another gl and add more.
