I'm not sure whats going on...I never really noticed that they stopped going out but they aren't. The mat looks dark color in purple but maybe has a film over it... any ideas ?

I have had issues with mine not tolerating algae or sediment on them.
I lost a fair amount before I made it a point to keep it blown off. I would try to use a baster and blow it off. I also have to do this occasionally with my deep sea gorgonians when I notice that their polyps aren't extending like usual.
If it is being irritated, I'm not sure if dipping would help or not. Maybe someone else can help with that.
Once I cleared mine, I had no more problems.
Can you post a picture?

I think GSP is the hardiest coral out there. I do know that if gorgonians are getting algae on them, you don't have enough water flow to carry sediment away and blow it off the corals. Turn the rock that the GSP is on to its side and increase the water flow over it...it may still open up as long as the mat is purple.

Rubbing it wll stress it even more, thinking it is under attack...just set the rock on the side so sediment can fall away and gently let a power head do the cleaning.

Agreed! If it's something that won't blow off with either a baster or a power head, a picture is definitely in order!

Not to hijack the thread, but Flower, what ever happened with your sea fan? Did it pull through? I have a large collection of gorgs and really enjoy them! I'll be pruning some soon as they are overgrowing the tank so if you would want a baby, let me know. Ours came right out of the Gulf, I got to go out with the collector, it was really cool!
