GSP on live rock question

if I go to the LFS and buy a green star polyps for 45 bucks that's coverign a peice of live rock that's about 2-3 pounds, will that live rock still function in my tank as live rock? Or does having the GSP all over itcut it off from filtering like they normally would? Cause if it would still count in my "punds of live rock per gallon"equation thingy, it would be well worth getting that peice of GSP just for the rock almost, the rock itself is worth 21 bucks, so 20 dollars for a LOT of GSP is a great deal.

actually, would it be better to like, split the rock in half, so I have 2 seperate patches of GSP in the tank that are resonably big insead of just one huge one? that way they'de spread faster, right?

I'd keep the rock intact and just cut and peel a piece of the mat from the GSP and apply it to another rock.

ok yeah, that makes more sense. I don't need any gloves or anythign do I? Do GSP have harmful toxins like zoos do? And by harmful, I mean, will eat through your skin. I'm obviously gonna wash my hands afterwards, so if its a monir thign that only hurts you if you at it, then I'm fine with that.

Soory to butt in but can you just cut GSP? I have a piece that is spreading to a place I don't want it. I was thinking of cutting approximately 1/4 of it. Would this harm it? To cut off a 1/4 of the GSP, would that be too much at once?

I've pull pieces of my star polyps off with my hands. I've even had star polyp frags out of water for 4 hours (forgot about them) and they were fine. This is one hardy coral.
