GSP sore

Need some advice. I've had my green spotted puffer for over a year and last week he just got a swollen cheek. It was like that for a few days - I saw a feeder fish sucking on his face so I thought they were fighting. Anyway, the swelling never went down. I put some medicine - bifurate - on his skin and put him in a soak. The next day, the whole area was gone. It was probably too strong for his skin and burned it off. So now, he has an open wound. How do you get it to heal quickly? I read tea tree oil helps so I got him out of the tank and put a drop on it. Then put him back in the tank.
I usually do a water change every 3 weeks... I changed the water the day I gave him the bifurate soak. And will do weekly water changes just in case of some disease he has. But how long does it take to heal?
When he had a swollen face, he just sat on the bottom of the tank and didn't move around but still ate a little. Now with the open wound, he's swimming around, playing and eating everything... so I think he's doing better. I have 2 other GSP as well as 3 goldfish that are just fine.
Any advice as to what to do? Medicines, vitamins, etc?

Ohhh, they are in a brackish tank, not salt water.Temperature is 82 degrees. pH level is good as well as no ammonia.
