I bought this filter and it comes with two differnt types of filtration.
1.Micron Cartridge
2.Carbon/Media Containter, Filter Sleeve and 8oz. Magnum Activated Carbon
which one should I use?
I have a 90gal fish only tank and I use 2 powerheads with a undergravel filter.
the second way to filter (choice number 2)
uses carbion and I was told that carbion takes out trace elements. so should I not use this way of filtration and stick with the Micron cartridge?

The media container should be used for extended / regular use. The micron cartridge is used to "polish" whenever you feel that there are lots of dust or whatever in your tank, maybe to be applied if the tank was stirred up for some reason.
As for the media, I'm thinking of replacing my carbon with denitrate removing media since I do have a protein skimmer. The carbon and protein skimmer should do the same purpose of removing the organic waste in the tank.

I agree with Discount; I used a Magnum with the suction connected directly to my undergravel tube for many years with great success. You should use the media container with the course mechanical filtration sleve for normal operation, and reserve the micron filter for occasional maintenance cleaning.
