H1N1 Flu Obama's Katrina?

You won't hear this on the news.
20,000 Americans ill, 1000 dead. The gov' had 5 months to prepare. Where are the immunizations, where is FEMA. What did they do for 5 months?
Why has it taken Obama so long to react. They knew the pattern in the spring. The knew it would hit again in the fall( 1918 flu epidemic).
Why did President Obama not save those people?

That must be what happens when you turn production over to the private sector

Are you saying the private sector is failing to deliver
Never would I think I would hear that here...

Actually the private sector was so restricted in what they could charge for the vaccines most companies now refuse to make them, thus the shortages. Another example of the folly of government meddling in the private sector

I guess this is why we need socialized medicine, since the gov't is suppose to take care of the peoples health and all....

Pay attention to the date of the article - exactly. Didn't know H1N1 was a childhood vaccine? I would have thought you would be all over cost savings ... Nice try though. Remember - the GOP had many unblockable years to fix the issue in your link....
I would have thought you would blame the fact that the government was too slow in allowing new technologies to have a chance. Then again if that turned out bad, the government would be at fault for not safe guarding the people with enough testing. A 5 month notice isn't a long time is it? It seems there are plenty of private sector companies wanting a shot at this down the road.
The true test if this will be President Obama's Katrina will be the total outcome worldwide compared to the US outcome.

seasonal flu vaccine has been out here for a few weeks now
Walgreens, Doctors, grocery store shot clinics shut down due to no iventory and none in the pipeline.
H1N1 can't be found, and ALL of the schools that were supposed to get it are not so far. They have had to put off their dates.

Where is all of it going?? Kids IMO are the ones that should get it first. The schools are FULL of this illness and it is not pretty. They are the ones in close proximity, questionable hand washing/sneezing/coughing habits. AND their parents are sending them to school sick dosed with tylenol/advil!!

I read somewhere (I am trying to find it) that there will eventually be so much H1N1 available, that we will be able to donate the unused doses to other countries. uh huh..........that makes it all better.

I'm not sure what you are talking about it not being available, I've had both regular and H1N1 shots for several weeks already. I got the H1N1 b/c of my 2 month old daughter. Clinics around here are having long lines forming to get their shots.

There are offering drive-thru clinics in my area.

Why would companies invest in producing the vaccines if they don't make a profit on them? All the other stuff as far as new technology don't matter if there isn't any money in it. And yes, the GOP had their chance to unClinton a lot of problems and dropped the ball so just like in 76 we get an incompetent boob elected because people will take a change at any cost. I only hope and pray like in 80 people realize you can change for the worse.
I think the whole point of Oscar's post was about the absolute fairy tails the media pushed about Katrina. If the idiots in charge in LA. would have done their jobs the feds wouldn't have been an issue. In this case the vaccine shortage isn't Obama's fault, just like Nagin and the Governor caused 90% of the crap the feds/Bush was blamed for by the media.
Just yet another example of the double standard being used by the press.

Yeah but there are more cows than people where you live

There are a lot of areas where it is hard to get the vaccine.

Don't worry, the seniors are complaining that Obama is trying to kill them early - no N1H1 for them either - God forbid the most affected get it first, children and young adults. There was the great generation.
Now the Korea and Vietnam generation still asking what about ME…. Go to any barber shop and listen to the old timers now in STL metro -- worried and complaining about themselves and not their grandchildern...

H1N1 is supposedly a more mild version than typical Flu. It is just striking more people because so many have never been exposed to this strain before. Seniors are actually less likely to catch it.
I am not anti vaccine but I have never had a flu shot for the simple reason that in my adult life I have never had the flu.

Obama is the president of the USA, not God.
We have a new pandemic virus on our hands and the means to manufacture immunizations for this virus is taking longer than expected because the virus is not replicating as quickly in the egg medium used to produce the immunizations. This is about science, and its limitations, not about the president.
It is about the survival of the fittest, and us, as individuals using some safety protocols that will go a very long way in keeping us virus free.
Maybe Obama should hand out hand sanitizers?

Not everything that happens is about politics, or Right vs Left.

This is correct, people keep forgetting how many people the regular flu kills every year.
My wife's office has not gotten the H1N1 vaccines in yet, and her patients are certainly asking for it, sounds like next week....My kids Pediatrician office will not give it because they are not comfortable with the obvious lack of long term testing.

Oh no! 20,000 Americans ill with the flu! My God, that hasn't happened since...
Last year. And the year before. And the year before that...
I know you love playing politics, but comparing 1,000 deaths from the flu to Katrina is a stretch, even for you...

Yeah, if the media followed the same standard they did on Bush during Katrina this would be compared to the black plague.
