Hey all,
I just picked up the above mentioned powerhead, and for the life of me I cannot get it to be bubble free. I have the valve closed tight, and I even put in an air hose valve to make sure, but I still get spurts of bubbles every 2 minutes or so. Does anyone have any ideas on how to keep this power head completely bubble free?

take the power head and flip it upside down.. shake it alittle bit (make sure its all under water) form time to time powerheads will spit out bubbles... if your not planning on using the air line to let air in the tank, just remove it all together... not necassary..
what happens is air gets trapped under the powerhead and in the intake.. flipping it over and shaking it helps get the trapped air out

Even without the airline on my 402 spits occasional bubbles. Next time I'm getting a Maxijet. Never remember having that problem with my Penguin either.

I have hagen powerheads too and they are making bubbles everywhere, I'll have to try that shaking thing. However, I was wondering how you owygenize the tank if they aren't producing bubbles. Do you guys have a sump or something?

i have 2 hagen 402's and a 301 and they all "coughed" bubbles- i could not get them to stop, then i realized that cleaning the strainers fixed it, now whenever they start to do that i just clean the prefilters and they are bubble free until they start to get plugged again

Owlett,
Oxygen is introduced into the aquarium by the surface. Surface agitation and circulation of water to the surface is the only way for O2 to get in the water. There is no need for bubbles to achieve this, as a matter of fact in reef aquariums bubbles can be detrimental (cause coral damage). All bubbles do is move water up to the surface, they do not actually introduce oxygen into water. Your tank should have good surface agitation (ripples). HTH

I have a powerfilter on the back of the tank, it circulates the water pretty well so i suppose that adds O2 just fine
I got the bubbles to go away :) too.
thanks for good info!
