Cats are definately the classic brunt of a joke, but I still love 'em. My two collies love them, too...FOR DINNER!

Wamp, like I said, I placed the traps far enough from where he is able to jump up on the hood and the vibration of him landing on the hood sets the traps off and the noise scares him. He never even came close to them. And mine does pee in the litter box but for some reason felt the aquarium was a nice place too. Never has peed anywhere else.
fishkiller - I was cleaning the tank a while back and had the hood off and just like your cat, mine leapt before he bothered to look. Funniest thing he's ever done - he twisted in mid air and his hind end went in the tank and then flew right back out of that tank. I had to chase him down to wash the saltwater off his butt.
Tanks starting to look a heck of a lot better now! Corals are coming back out too! Amazing what cat pee can do to a tank.
Cat just sits in front the aquarium and stares up at it now.

randy- I'm sitting here laughing my a$$ off!!! I could see my cat doing the same thing, but his reflexes are not as keen as your cat's. He just went for a short swim. That story about the oscars pulling the cat in the water was funny as hell too. Good thread!
Wamp- you wouldn't scare a mouse huh? Wow, I was mistaken... I thought my little cousin was a ........ well... sensitive person. My cat also pees in the litter box. For some reason, he likes peeing on everything else once in a while. This is why they did not move with me to my new place. If your cat has never pissed on anything other than in the litter box, you are either the luckiest cat owner on the face of the earth or you just can not smell anything.
Randy- Glad everything is working out. Good luck with the tank. Oh yeah, and next time, put a thin trip-wire along your hood, with each end tied to a coke can with some change in it. This is a more HUMANE way of training the cat to not jump up there...EVER again... Because so many people think that what you are doing is SO AWEFUL!!!!! ARGH!!! SO INHUMANE!!!!! lol.... Yeah, hey randy if they like your's they're gonna LOVE that! :D

There is a very funny cartoon book (like "Far Side") called "I hate Cats, 101 Uses For A Dead Cat" by Skip Morrow That I recommend for anybody that loves/hates cats.:p

my cat only pees int he litter box, but our other one, before he died was not fixed or if they are not fixed early enough they will spray(and if it smells that bad, it prob is spray)
if it is an inside cat, and it is spraying then maybe we should be looking to blame somewhere else
no, i am not saying either way, in fact i really do not like cats, but you cannot blame the cat for doing what is natural,
WE DO IT ourselves. mark our territory.
we put up fences or at least have our land surveyed
install locks and doors
we buy rings
and so on
all animals mark their territory and sho off somehow for mating reasons.

ps, though i do find this funny and also
thinking about the cat am laughing at all these experiences and humorous replies
and do not think it to be animal abuse, no worse than a newspaper. and as mentioned, it will only scare the sh*t out of a cat, even if it gets him

Cat is actually still a kitten - about 7 months old and was fixed. So not sure what's going on. Hopefully that's the only place he's going to try and "mark". He's actually bigger than our full grown dog and the cat still has growing to do. Quite a jumper - can jump staight up to get a toy I'm holding - almost 6'!
We have a new 90 bowfront reef ready to put up as soon as we have a spare day. No overflow to pee in!

Oh they have pissed on other things... My shoe... That pissed me off.. But they only do it when something is wrong.. Rather it be a dirty literbox, stress, a change around them or I shut a door on them. Most cats do this as a way of rebelion. So if he is peeing in your tank.. Maybe you spend more time on the tank than him..
Or... He just really had to go :D

Cats will pee. That I have figured out. Where? That is for them to figure out. And I figured, it aint gonna be in MY house anymore. Besides, they can pee or spray on anything they wanna pee on outside. One thing that REALLY pissed me off was when I left my car window open one night and my NEIHBOR'S CAT jumped in, pissed on the seat, and left paw prints all over it. My dogs enjoyed chasing it away. Haven't seen the cat since. :D

Or maybe my cat was just too lazy to get off the aquarium.]
But you're probably right. More time spent on the aquarium than him. Use to have a dog that when he got mad at me he would pee on MY side of the bed!
fishkiller - have you ever left your windows down again? Man, I bet your car just stunk something awful, especially in the heat of the summer! Was it just pee or spray? Spray is the worst!

fishkiller,
i feel your pain on the car...I had a tomcat jump in my Convertible Vette and spray the pass side door panel. It took almost 6 months for the smell to finally go away. I steam cleaned it about every week.

i would put acrylic or some type of clear thing like saran wrap so it would have pee'd on itself or atleast protect the tank from being pee'd on. problem solved :p

entice59 - thought about it but I still don't want the cat peeing anywhere but the litter box.

you cant just tell a cat where not to go pee... my aunt used some type of fabric to stop her cat from scratching out the couch.... i forgot what it was, maybe some mascing tape or was it tin foil... i forgot... maybe it might stop the cat from jumping near that tank

Prater- What year vette? My dad is somewhat of a collector and I am a chevy man at heart. I drive a 96 Firebird Formula, w/ the Chevy 350 LT1 (Vette motor), 6-speed. Pretty damn quick. Doesn't smell much like cat piss anymore. I'm actually selling it now.:(
