Hair algae on new equipment?

I'm not too concerned, but more curious as why I have hair algae growing on my new powerheads and heater? I have no nitrates or phosphates, so what can they be living on? I'm sure it will die off, but as stated above....why? I hate h.algae!

LOL...you have no trates cause the hg eats it...lol
clean it off...that's what I do...seems to me that there will ALWAYS be some sort of algae around

Periodically I take my Koralia powerheads out, and soak them in a white vinegar bath....In between baths, if the Hair Algae is long enough I just pull it out with my fingers....
