Put a nice Halimaeda plant in my main tank about 2 weeks ago...started turning white 3 days ago...was worried not enough light(30 gal tank with T5 lights for 8 hours/day) moved to middle of tank two days ago, no difference.....tank specs are within norm, using de-ionized water with salt for changes, changes done at least once every two weeks. no additives used in tank....any thoughts?

Halimeda is a calcium loving saltwater plant. You must have excellent, if not somewhat higher levels of calcium for this plant to thrive. It is also light dependent. It is normal for the platelets to turn white at night, but should regain its color after a few hours of the light coming back on. Check your calcium levels, should be at least 400-450 in my opinion to flourish. Flow is also important. Should be somewhat strong, without it blasting the plant.
I had the plant growing very nicely in my tank, but went to corals and removed most of it. It will eat up your calcium really quickly, and so do some of my corals, so it had to go.
