i bought a hammer coral about 2 weeks ago and its about 4 inches long (skeleton part of it) i would say within the last 2 days 1/8 to 1/4 inch is not there anymore...as if it died off or completely went into the skelton part of it...is there anything i can do to try to nurture it back or is it completely dying off?...the rest of it during the day is find they are about and 1 inch out and swaying...just that little bit on the end that i am worried about
any comments or opinions would be greatly appreciated

As long as the tissue is not disinigrating and like mucusing off it is not dying and it should be ok. Post pics of what you are talking about

What kind of lighting, where do you have it placed and are you feeding it, what is your calcium levels at, ph levels phophates, nitrates, nitrites? Here is a pic of mine. I have had him for about a month now and he is growing nicely. I feed him Roti Feast from Reef nutririon. spcificaly for hard corals. I am no pro but I hope this helps a bit. oh yes and good water flow.

Well if the tentacles are out that is a good sign. I've seen a torch coral die and basically the tentacles just melted away and left the skeleton piece. As far as its recovery I would say put it in a low flow area to let it heal.
As far as feeding, I've never been able to get mine to actually ate anything that I could see. I'm sure it does get some of the floating leftovers but I wouldn't spend the time trying to feed it directly, or the zoas for that matter. About the only coral I have that eats what I spot feed it is my sun coral because it needs the food for survival.
