Hammer/Frogspawn Question

I have a 24g Nano that has been set up for about 9 months and is doing well with a variety of mushrooms, polyps, a small piece of Candy Cane and one clam. The lighting is standard 32 Watt compact florescents. My question is can I add a Hammer or Frogspawn with this lighting set up?

I don't know much about lighting yet, but I have a frogspawn in my stock biocube 29g. The froggy has been in there for about 2 months and has lots of new growth. (just looked and the 29g biocube has 36w) I would think it should be fine.

Frogspawn/hammer should be ok with CF light. I had mine high up then lowered them down a bit when I switched to T5s.

Any Clam would need a lot more light than a Frog or Hammer would need. What is your total light output now? Also how long have you had the Clam and what kind is he?
Ohhhhh BTW Welcome to the boards!!!

The clam is a crocea and it seems to be doing fine. I've had it for about 2 months and add a small amount of PhytoPlex a couple of times a week for food. The owner of the local Marine store is from Indonesia and said this variety would do fine with compacts and so far he's been right. My lighting is strictly stock for a Aquapod 24. It has a 32 Watt daylight bulb and a 32 watt blue atenic with a couple of moon lights. One of the reasons I was interested in the hammer/frogspawn was that I 've seen where Percula clowns have used them as if they where an anenomes. I have 2 small ones in the tank and was hoping for the same result.

The Crocea is maybe the best choice for you tank size. The Frog-Hammer issue is just seeing which one will Host. Maybe a Torch with the longer tentacles would be a better selection to make.. My Clown host with a Bubble.......... crazy isn't it... I have Hammer, Frog and Torch in my tank and the silly Clown Hosted with my Bubble which I had first, and has not moved from it in years......... Here are shots of all of them in one of my tanks just to see the differnce close up . BTW that darn Bubble I got years ago when he was a few inches across, is now well over a foot across when he thinks it is time to eat other corals close by
..... Good Luck........... Warren

Very much the same. All except the Bubble are in the same family of corals. The Bubble is a close relation but I still think the Torch may be the best bet. Also it I think it's flowing tentacles in the current is one of the prettiest to watch too!

Thanks for the information. Of the corals you mentioned which one is the easiest to maintain?
Frogspawn is the easiest, hammer, then torch in that family. Bubble is a different family but I would probably put it in the middle of the ease.
Results will vary though. Some people can't keep frogspawn alive. Others have it growing like a weed.

yes you can put it on your tank, Just remember if their not happy then they shrivel up like a new 80's perm(they do anyways when you move them but if they stay that way for a few days, they need to move to another location in your tank.. good luck I love to add new things
