Can you please tell me which do you prefer? I don't really know anything about 'under the tank filtration'. What kind of matienace is there-what kind of upkeep? Which is easier hang on or sump? I'm looking to upgrade and of course I need to know if I want a tank that's drilled or not...and I don't really know anything about drilled tanks and the filtration. Please just lemme know what you know:)

I can tell you from my own experience..I just got a sump, and wish I had it from the beginning...I do not have a drilled tank, BUT if I could start all over..I would probably get one drilled. Then you don't have to mess with overflows.
I also think they are easier to maintain...

sump/fuge all the way! you'll never get the added benefit of the increased water volume that a sump provides with HOB filtration. also, a sump adds space to incorporate so many different kinds of filtration (extra lr, DSB, macroalgae, mud, carbon, etc. ). sure you could mod some HOB filters into fuge's and run some carbon, but you have so many choices with sumps. plus they hide all your equipment (skimmer, heaters).
also, if you end up getting a tank that is not reef ready, you can always custom drill it yourself for pretty cheap (see also: king_neptune, drdingo, veni vidi vici). this allows you to put your overflows and returns where you want them while not having to pay the manufacturer to custom drill it for you. you could do a HOB overflow but they tend to lose siphon which causes problems.

Probably a sump would be better. I personally only have the HOB for now, but in a year or two I will probably upgrade.
