i don't have a lot of room for a below fuge (and hate floods) and i'm looking for a way to add stability to the system

I have found that there is no substitute for a protein skimmer. Takes out all kinds of crap. If you have to do the hanging one, then I'd suggest doing it. Figure out a way to hide it! :)

i have a hang on protein skimmer anyway. Why hide it. it will be full of pods and macro. i was actually thinking about hanging it on the side so i could see it. that way i know when its harvest time.

Friend has a hang on Ecosystem brand. Two problems he has are he has to add water almost on a daily basis due to the fact fuge isn't big enough to hold a lot of water. Also, the overflow U tube is very short (along with the skimmer box being very short/small) and it's easy for it to lose the syphon and hard to restart so I helped him add a Aqua Lifter to it to help with that problem.
Otherwise, the tank is doing great, growing lots of caulerpa, pods, etc.

i already add water daily due to the 29 G. I just think for the price of setup based on a above or below fuge is more beneficial for my system.

Does that have a light on top of it?? How much and where can you get them besides ----. I looked there and didn't see anything>

I used the 18" CPR unit for a while on my 50g and it had little to no impact on nitrate control as it's just not big enough. they are great for pod production though. another problem with the CPR units is they don't come with a light so you need to DIY one, and they tend to have an air buildup problem in their return syphon and if you don't watch it closely and clear it you can end up with a flood. If pod production is what your after they work fine. If macro growth and nitrate control is what your looking for don't waste your $$$.

I have one of the internal ones and it works great. No floods and no syphon to worry about. at first they dont look great but after some purple grows on them they are great. It just takes time. Mine is always full of pods and worms. It is in the upper left hand corner. This is an old pic so it has more growth on it now. LOL:D

Ive got a 20"(its actually 19.25") cpr hob fuge, it works great. I found a mantis in my LR when I first setup the tank(3 months ago) and its a good penality box until I can find someone to take him.
The pod production in my fuge is nutz too, millions and millions of pods with no predators in there. I was planning on adding some macro but Im now leaning twards adding some xenia to the fuge and phos/calc reactors (bye bye nitrates and hello coral!).
There is no risk of flooding with the cpr ones either because the return is above the tank. I do have a diy trap to keep the mantis out of the overflow, which if got clogged could cause it to flood the place with about ~20 gallons of water.. but thats just temporary.
I dont keep the fuge lit right now either (lights for fuge is the next purchase for sure), but I do have a couple pieces of LR in their for the pods. I've noticed that a few hundred sea squirts have popped up in the last 2 weeks too, I think thats because of the low light. Does anyone know if sea squirts have any benefits?
To sum it up, I give the cpr hob's 2 thumbs up. Esp for a newbie that doesn't want to tackle below or above fuge yet. Its way worth it for someone on a budget with a <50 gallon tank.

i know Jalli makes both a 13w and a 18w and coralife makes a 18W
but it has two bulbs and i think the Jalli has only one.
