hang on the side refugium

Does anybody have any experience with the hang on the outside refugium?
I do not have room for a refugium under my tank so I was thinking about purchasing the hang on the side type. I do not want to waste my money if it does not work.

I had one at one time for my old 55. It didn't really work at a 'fuge per say; (too small). However; it did have it's benifits! I used it to drop in my heater and feed a HOB skimmer. I had all the auxillary stuff hidden in the "fuge", so I didn't have the clutter in my tank. When I sold the 55, the HOT fuge went with it..the guy loved the idea! Just don't buy one thinking you're gonna have an actual working living fuge.

I agree with the above post. You are really limiting yourself with the size. I would save the money and buy some caulerpa to grow inside the main tank.

Mine really didn't help my algae problem one bit, due to it's size I guess, and I didn't like the look of it on my 29 gal. tank. The light I had over it would spill over into my tank. I ended up getting rid of it and bought a better skimmer and I'm doing more frequent water changes. My water quality is better now. The one plus to the thing was all the pods I had in my tank, my chaeto was full of life.
