?? i know heat is one of the problems but is that the only reason lights are elavated like halides and compact flourescents? and also do they have to be elevated i want to get two 3' Phazer IV lights for my 125 but dont really want to have to hang lights what do you all think/?

Yes heat is a problem, and I dont know about your setup but on ours We have tremendous amount of surface adjitation which creates little misty bubbles. If these misty bubbles would touch a hot bulb[kablamy] this is the other reason why mine are above my tank 8 in in one tank and 12 in in the other, all inclosed in custom hoods that I have built, looks good and no explosions.....fixit ;)

there is hardly any surface movement on my tank i have an overflow corner of the tank but there is no water that would ever touch the lights also is in not possible to lay the lights down? if they must be raised what height is good? a 125 and each 3' light would be 182 watts

hi, you have very little surface movement?? Dont you have a problem with an oily skim on the top?? Good surface adjatation will also help with oxygenation. Also for the selection of fish we have are triggers both spit, and we have a luner wrasse that likes to jump and splash. anyway,8-12 in is an averadge, some go lower.what type of tank is this [reef-F/O] On a reef only you probly could go lower but there is always a chance you could drop something or just splash. I would hate to take the chance and a accident happen, cya....fixit :)

On the tank I just purchased, it has a MH on top of the canopy in an ugly housing. Is it possible to put the MH in the canopy so they are not seen on the outside? If so, what is the best way to do it?
