Hanna TDS reading

I just got my Hanna tds meter. It didn't really come with anything on what the readings mean. It says it was pre-calibrated by the factory. I tested my tap water and it reads only 012. Then I tested my RO/DI water and it reads 007. Are these readings correct or am I doing something wrong? I would think the tap water would be much higher and the RO/DI water would have been lower. My RO/DI unit is almost new. I used it for maybe 70 gal. so far.

I agree with you. I would think your city water would be much higher. Maybe you've got the best city water in the country??? And I would also expect your RO/DI unit to produce 000 to 003 being new.
The only other thing I can think of is on my TDS meter, if it goes over 999 it will have a X10 in the display indicating that you need to multiply the reading by 10.

Well I'm starting to think the meter is working ok. I tested water directly from the RO into a glass jar and the reading was 001 then I tested from the bucket that I store my RO water in and I got a reading of 017. So maybe there is something in the bucket causing the high readings. I re-tested my tap water and it still only reads 019 and I put a little salt in the tap water and it read 870. I think it is working correctly I guess I just have exceptional tap water. I live only 1/2 mile from the water treatment plaint so that could be the reason also.

Sounds like you got it figured out. that's great about your tap water being so good. It will definitely prolong the life of your RO filters. I'm jealous, my city water reads 600-700. And they say it's safe to drink! Oh well, that's to be expected living in the desert I guess.

Anyone know why the RO water would read high 017 from my plastic storage buckets? The buckets are new and clean.

Mine reads that sometimes in my mixing bucket. I'm sure it's from residual salt. Rinse your buckets really well and see if that takes care of it.
