Since the 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays, I thought I'd do something a little different today. Although this messageboard is worldwide, most of us are in the USA, so it should apply to most of us.
Too many Americans fail to fully grasp what it means to live in this country, or appreciate the risk and sacrifice our founding fathers made to break free of our bonds to the British and form our own union. These men formally declared our independence and founded this nation by signing a document that guaranteed their deaths should they be captured by the British. It took guts to create and sign our declaration of independence, which founded a the greatest republic in the history of the world and basically gave the King of England the finger all at the same time.
To read and understand at least the first two sections of the declaration - to really understand it - is something that we should all take the time to do. So take a few moments and read it here.
When we are all enjoying our fireworks and BBQs today, try to take a moment to remember what it really means to live in this country, what it really means to enjoy our liberties, and recognize the sacrifices that were made by men and women today and before us that allow us to live life in this great country.
Happy 4th of July, and may God Bless America!
