Hardness and alkalinity

I just checked my GH and KH. My KH is 210 to 230 and my GH is 2600 mg/l and I stopped the test as it is very hight, doesn't really matter how high. The book that comes with the kit is not very clear on what I should be getting. I think this is high, should I be thingking about a RO/DI filter system? What should I do to the tank to get these lower? My local fish shop says don't worry about it if all else is correct.
Thanks

Kip - I test for trates and trites, ammonia, and PH. Calcium now and phosphates too, just received test kits. I know my water is hard. If I do not use a RO system, what effect will hard water have? I know my cichlids love it, but this is salt. I spent $250 on lights - I bet my next purchase is a RO system, but in the mean time...

A high alkalinity i think inhibits calcification. Thus a coral can't properly use the calcium in the water. A too low alk will subject your tank to ph swings. Beyond what else it does im not entirely sure.

Your calcium levels also depend on what you are trying to keep. Typical coral just 400 for SPS and clams i would keep it 450 or a little higher.

I have a bottle of SeaChem , Reef Complete, raises calcium. It says to add a capful per 20 gals. Is this ok to do? Or should I do this slowly.
My tank has a few soft corals - polyps and green polyps - thats all - 40 lbs of LR also. With about 4 fish - clowns and a tang. About 10 blue legs, 2 emeralds, an arrow crab, and a peppermint.
we are OT from hardness of water - sorry..
