Has anyone had to have chemo therapy for a kitty?

Well I have had a very bad day...
My poor little, love of my life, can't live without her kitty, may have cancer. Let's review her story, back in 1998 my mom found her in the middle of the road someone had tossed her out of a car. There was a lot of trauma to her head, her brain swelled which caused her to not use her hind legs. I had to take her to the vet everyday for a week to get shots of steroids to keep her brain from swelling. She also had one of her canine teeth break so I had have it removed. So over the years she has gone in and out of health. She gets urinary track infections, she has allergies that cause open sores about once every two months, she get ulcers in her left eye about once a year, I have to have her left eye cleaned out once a month because dirt builds up in it, she gets diarrhea often and vomits so she has trouble keeping up her weight, her liver enzyme count should be around 100 and her's jumps to 1100, and one day she woke me up having a seizure. Soooooo today I take her to the vet to get her liver checked and they find a mass below her kidneys that they are worried about.... so she has to have her 3rd sonogram and then if that looks bad, have the mass checked to see if it is cancer and if it is cancer then we start chemo.
I am just wondering if anyone has had a cat go through chemo and what it is like. I love my cat more then I can ever express and if I have to work 5 jobs to pay for this I will. I apperciate anyone's advice, prayers and good thoughts... I just really upset about this :O(

Sorry to hear, animals are intregal parts of our lives. Ive heard that a felines internal anatomy is very similar to a humans. Maybe the Vet can try similar therapies.
Best wishes.

I am terribly sorry this is happening to you. I lost my dog to cancer. Lymphoma. We had the option to have chemo, but as the doctor stated there was no garinties. The cost would have been 1500 a yr. So we opted to do the steriod treatment to easy his pain. The swelling of his lymph nodes went down, and he seemed happy. One morning months later we woke up to find that he could not control his bowels any longer. We then knew it was time to put him down. It was probably the hardest thing I ever had to do. We knew it was time because the vet let us know that once the cancer spread to his organs, there would be no saving him. I wish you the best of luck! This was 4 years ago, and it still gets to me. My prayers go out to you!

Sorry to hear about your cat. We lost a scottish terrier 2 years ago. Did chemo for 12 months, cost about $4000 and was VERY hard on the dog. She was very sick after her treatments and not the same at all. The cancer was in remission for 5 months when it came back. We didnt want to put her through chemo aga and she passed. In our case, i dont think it was worth the pain it put her in.
