I'm considering layering my 8 inch sand with layers~
LR, LS, LR, LS...etc. The purpose is to leave more wiggle room for sand bed cleaners such as narsisus snails. Has anyone layered their substrate beds?

I would think over time the sand will just compact utilizing any free space formerly created by the LR. My snails seem to burrow in the sand A' OK
. I have no experience trying this, however...blaze a trail

That makes a lot of sense. The main concern, about a 8 inch bed, brought up by another member, was will it get enough cleaning to ensure no build ups of trapped ammonia or such. I'm considering this for my pony tank. My intent was to build a pod haven.
Thanks,

Pockets may be created, but so long as they are not disturbed I don't think this to be an issue. The nass snails are only going to disturb the top few inches I would think, thus preventing any pockets in that area, and any pockets farther down should not be disturbed/released to create any problems. This is merely an educated guess on my part...if that even
