I saw the same research at -- and lmao. What a rip off. It should also be noted the research was by a lfs (on-line store, if I remember right)that wanted to see what that MM actually was. I'll go with a dsb, cheaper and if you get small enough particle sizes, its the same. MM is quartz and silicate....here is the link. I'm not knocking MM, never used it, and frankly don't see a need to buy it, but why don't some do more research BEFORE knocking someone else.

Woa.....looks like a can of worms got opened up here.LOL.....Well,the reason for the BIO BALLS in the MM set up is too TRAP large particulate matter.If you were too use a FILTER SCREEN such as floss pads etc,the thinking is that it would CLOG UP and be TOO EFFICIENT of a MECHANICAL FILTER.The AMOUNT of BIO BALLS in the MM set ups is far LESS than than would be found in typical wet dry's,there by the level of BIO ACTIVITY is rather insignificant.As far as MAKING your own type of MM,I would find it a challenge in the BLENDING of the ELEMENTS that go into it.It would take a LONG time too get the CORRECT RECIPE IMO.Happy Reefing yall !!!!!!!!

Does it matter if someone is called a dumb ass, who cares. Let people speak. If you build a ecosystem it will cost more than 60 dollars end of story. So that was a poor statement that was made. Mud alone is 60. I built a whole system for a easy 75, $300.00.

Old Yeller, the bio balls in the eco-system are there only to trap the large particles. Not everyone has the ability to build one for $60.00. Although I am very capable of making one myself, I bought an ecosystem for each of my tanks. It was much easier to just take it out of the box and start it up. Bu the way, you can buy miracle mud at ***************.com for $50.00
