Has any one used AmQuel water detoxifier before. I used it for the first time today and will test the water again tomorrow. I just wanted to know if any had used it before. The lfs said it would work to lower my ammonia(0.50 I have 2 missing fish and can't find them) :( Thanks for reading my junk.

Yes I tried it also about 2 yrs ago. I don't think it did anything. The LFS told me it was " just the thing to use" The water changes took care of it. <img src="graemlins//eek.gif" border="0" alt="[eek]" />

I used it for dechlorinating tap water prior to buying RO water from the store. Since have purchased an RO/DI unit - I don't use Amquel anymore.
I didn't use it to remove ammonia in the main tanks though - just for freshwater tap top offs and mixing salt couple years back.
Kordon claims it "changes ammonia to a non-toxic compound that the bacteria quickly consume."
It can also interfere some some ammonia test kits. I would not recommend making a habit of using this stuff in your display tank though.

Funny little catch phrase there fuglyfish.
I believe many of those ammonia eliminators actualy just change the ammonia into a non toxic form thus allowing the bacteria in the tank to still consume it without any harm to the fish.
If there is ammonia in your source water by all means use it.
I would suggest finding another means of source water however that does not contain ammonia.
If you are finding a build up of ammonia in your tank it either means that your tank has not completed the cycle or the tank is over populated and the biofilter can not handle the load.
