Has anything like this happened to you?

Just thought I would share an unexpected affliction on my tank courtesy of my 5 yr old son. While my wife was sleeping my son got out of bed to look at the 46 gal reef I am currently setting up.
The tank just finished cycling, and I added 2 perc clowns today. My son decided the clowns were hungry, and proceeded to put in several handfuls of spectrum pellets (of course the small .5mm pellets), and go back to bed.
I came home from work about an hour later to find the sand covered in a layer food. After an hour of vacuuming the pellets out, and running the water through a micron filter and breaking down the live rock to siphon the rest I am back in business.
I have had some time to calm down so the probability of my son's picture ending up on a milk carton is gone.

just wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences

Some woman on here recently posted a thread about her nephew pouring hot sauce in her tank.
Lucky for you, you can siphon the food out.

How low is your tank that a five year old could access it? Maybe you should think about relocating it...

LOL! The big question then is, how did your Phyto, DT and Cyclops taste?

I remember when she posted that. I'm on these forums wayyy too much I think.

A recent post had a keeper accidently dump an entire canister of food in the tank. Hey! at least you can blame the mishap on your son. Wait until you get to take credit for the mistake yourself! :hilarious :hilarious :hilarious

Just be very careful and don't let you 5 year old son watch nemo, or explain very clearly that Nemo is a make belive movie. and that Clown fish can not make their way back to the ocean via a toilet. You have no idea just how many small children climbed into tanks and "recued" nemo after that movie came out.
I have a friend who had a 150gallon, in it she had a very nice mated pair of clowns and several other fish. Then one night her 3year old and 5 year old decided to help ALL the fishes get home to see their families. Those kids flushed the mated pair of clowns, 3 blue chromis, 1 small hippo tang, 3 fire fish, 1 potters angle, a wrasse, And to top it off a pair of Helfrich firefish which cost just under $200 apiece. The 5 year old helped the 3 year old into the tank. the 3 year old caught and the 5 year old flushed. Needless to say the tank was totally trashed. Rock thrown out of the tank. A hugh mess.
She (the mother) decided to sell what she could, and figured that it wasn't a good idea to have a tank until the kids were much older. But then her kids were always into tearing apart something.

Studies show that 78% of all reef safe fish prefer the taste of Coke.

It would be time to put those two up for adoption

Her husband had to take the kids to Grandma's house for the week. It took her just about that long to calm down. I was with her when she broke everything down. It is a very sad thing to have to go through. I think if those kids were anywhere where she could have reached them, She probley would have put a real hurting on those two.

Hard enough for me to catch fish in my own tank..Much less a five year old..The children should not have access to the top of the tank..My four year old for one knows better and two could Not get up there if she wanted to..

That is a very strict rule I have in my house. Whenever anyone brings thier kids over. The first thing I do is tell them they are not to hit, slap, yell at my tank. If they do, they are not allowed to stay in the same room as my tank. They will have to sit on the bathtub, that is the only room in my place without a tank, and wait for their mom and me to finish talking or what ever we are doing. I know this sounds mean, but I am a very strong believer in getting children to understand about respecting other peoples property. Which seems very lacking these days.

I had my cockatiels bathing in some water I was going to use as top off, the droppings in the bucket told me not to use the water. I wondered why they were so happy squawking away at the time....

Happened to me too. My tank is out of noraml reach but my wife had friends and their kids over. While we were entertaining kids decided to play hide-n-seek. Then decided to pour pellet food in the tank. The entire bottom was covered. I tried getting everything out and did a 20% water change. I came home from work next day and smelled @#*%!!!!! Everything was dead...including a ton of bristle worms... Only survivor was a hermit crab.
